Superbowl XLV – The good, the bad, and the ugly.

7 Feb

Apparently, all the Green Bay Packers needed was more of a challenge. Every time they seemingly were in danger of allowing Pittsburgh to complete the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history, the Packers responded. By forcing a critical fumble, driving for a touchdown and adding a late field goal in the second half Sunday night, Green Bay secured a 31-25 victory in Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium. While the game was great, the moments beside, were equally entertaining..some of the highlights including:

Christina Aguilera messing up the lyrics to the national anthem

The Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie making us all yearn for Axl Rose (butchering ‘Sweet Child ‘O mine and adding to the list of horrible half-time shows)

On the upside, There were the commericials, that for the most part did not disappoint. Here are my list of favourites below:

Volkswagen Commercial – The Force

The most talked about ad long before the game even started was this cute spot from Volkswagen featuring a pint-sized Darth Vader who gains the power to turn on a car using The Force.

Groupon – Tibet – 2011 Super Bowl Commercial Ad

Not so much funny as disturbingly offensive, Groupon made its Super Bowl debut with a series of ads (which also include Cuba Gooding Jr. going on a whale watch and Elizabeth Hurley getting a Brazilian wax) that compare global disasters to saving money on luxury good and services.

Budweiser ‘Wild West’

Character actor Peter Stormare (of Fargo and Big Lebowski fame) has a star-turn in Budweiser’s old west meets Almost Famous ad.

SNICKERS – “Logging”

Richard Lewis stars in this year’s Snickers commercial, which means 2011 just found its Betty White. Next stop, Saturday Night Live. With very special guest Roseanne Barr.

Official Best Buy Big Game Spot with Bieber and Ozzy

Ozzy Osbourne and Justin Bieber finally occupy the same space in this ad for Best Buy. Naturally, the spot ends with a bearded Bieber remarking the Justin Bieber looks like a girl.

Bridgestone – Reply All

Bridgestone recreates the feeling that pretty much anyone who works in an office has felt at least once.

Status | Chevy Cruze | Super Bowl Ads

There’s something inherently funny about a car reading you a Facebook update from a first date who you’re obviously not friends with yet or she wouldn’t write “Best first date ever.”

NFL – American Family

In the most nostalgic ad of the night, everyone’s favorite sitcom characters demonstrate their love for football.

Eminem -Brisk Superbowl Commercial

I would buy “Eminem, shut up and drink it ice teaaaa”.
