Theophilus London

The man has style. No matter what Theophilus London does, it all seems to fall in place – dusty beats, new wave sensibility, indie rock samples, Caribbean flavor. He’s a rapper, songwriter and producer from Brooklyn, and i’m a huge fan.His first mixtape JAM! was a buzzy DIY effort that tipped off early adopters in the underground, but it was the independent release of This Charming Mixtape via his brand The Lovers in early 2009 that introduced London’s voracious pop appetite and minted him as an artist to watch beyond mere hype. It’s possible this is the arrival of a once-in-a-generation talent: Theophilus London is very much in this moment but not of it.

Peep these videos, he’s more than dope.

The indie/hip-hop genre clash began with rappers throwing verses on 2 year old indie hits. Things are quickly spiraling, and it’s great to witness this rising awareness of the indie world by cutting edge hip-hop acts. In his latest video featuring footage from the 1996 Olympics (??) Theophilus London hops on The xx‘s remix/cover of Florence and the Machine‘s “You’ve Got The Love”. This is perfect and I love it.

Oh, and add a new release to that, DOWNLOAD: Theophilus London – Life of a Lover (Remix) ft. Jessie Boykins III & Blu | Mediafire
